Frequently asked questions
Kalakamu is a Finnish company specializing in fly fishing travel to Patagonia, Chile. We work directly with experienced local operators who know the rivers, the fish, and the region inside out. Our job is to make the journey seamless — from planning and booking to making sure you’re in the right place at the right time with the right guide. We’ve been there ourselves, and we build every trip around the experience we’d want to have.
Our trip prices typically cover accommodation, local transfers, and some meals. Guiding is included on most trips, though the number of guided days varies — some packages include daily guiding while others cover select days. Flights, travel insurance, personal gear, and most meals are not included. Each trip page has the full breakdown so you know exactly what’s covered.
We use WeTravel for secure and straightforward bookings. Once you’ve chosen your trip you can reserve your spot with a deposit. The remaining balance is due before the deadline specified in your booking confirmation. All payments are handled securely through WeTravel.
We understand that plans can change. Our cancellation terms are outlined on our terms page and depend on how far in advance you cancel. Generally, earlier cancellations are eligible for a larger refund. Please review the specific terms at the time of booking, and feel free to contact us if you have questions.
The exact best window depends on the region and species you’re targeting. Each trip page includes details on timing, and we’re happy to help you pick the right dates.
We offer trips suitable for different experience levels. Some trips are ideal for seasoned fly fishers looking for a challenge, while others welcome intermediate anglers who want to develop their skills in a world-class setting. Each trip description specifies the recommended skill level, so you can find the right fit.
Each trip page includes a recommended gear list. In general, you should bring your own rod, reel, and waders if you have them. Generally a 5wt or 6wt rod can cover most types of trout fishing. We’ll send you a detailed packing list after booking so you know exactly what to prepare.
Flights are not included in our trip prices. You’ll need to book your own flights.
EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Chile for stays under 90 days. A valid passport is required. Local fishing licenses are arranged as part of the trip — we take care of that so you can focus on fishing.
You need your own travel insurance. We recommend making sure that the insurance covers flight delays or cancellations.
